Embodying Organs

The Interconnection of Body, Movement, and Consciousness

The body, movement, and consciousness are deeply interconnected, each one influencing the others. How we experience and express our physical form affects both our movement and our consciousness.

While movement is often thought of in terms of muscle activity, all of the body’s systems play vital roles in supporting and expressing our physicality, giving rise to a variety of movement qualities and states of consciousness. Organs and glands contribute unique characteristics to this intricate and fascinating interaction.

Organs

Organs play a fundamental role in sustaining life. They enable us to breathe, nourish ourselves, and eliminate waste. These structures form early in embryological development and underlie the development of other bodily systems.

If there are challenges with alignment, flexibility, or strength, engaging the organs in movement or sound, or working with them through touch, can help facilitate changes in the skeletal and muscular systems.

Organs add depth and dimension to movement and voice, and they provide access to profound changes in the neuromuscular system through touch. They also carry the emotional energy embedded in our movements and vocal expressions, offering insight into the emotional content of both stress and ease within the body’s tissues.

Endocrine Glands

The endocrine glands serve as the body’s chemical regulatory system, acting as a link between the organs and the nervous system. By engaging with these glands, we can express distinct states of consciousness. Each gland is associated with a unique and specific emotional and physiological state.

The influence of endocrine glands extends beyond their immediate location, affecting the entire spine as well as particular regions of the limbs. Stimulating movement or sound through these glands, or engaging with them through touch, can promote greater mobility, strength, and balance within the spine, while enhancing freedom and nuanced articulation in the limbs.

Exploring Organs and Glands

Our personal “psychophysical geography” (anatomy) and developmental history (embryology) guide us in understanding where we are in our bodies and how we arrived here.

By exploring organs and glands through embodied movement, touch, and sound, we unlock a deeper sense of vitality, authenticity, presence, and organic movement.

In this course, we will cultivate awareness of the physical and expressive foundations of organs and glands, incorporating insights from other body systems, embryological development, and their applications in movement, touch, voice, and consciousness.

No prior experience with the Body-Mind Centering® method is required. Come with an open mind and a curious spirit, ready to explore the interconnectedness of movement, voice, body, and consciousness.
